Socha Hai?

This was our final project and was called Play! we had to make a project which invokes playfulness.
I along with 2 more students thought of playing around with education. The main aim of the project  was to invoke curiosity among the people. We thought of asking people questions based on everyday activities. The questions were as simple as 'While swimming underwater, why are we able to see clearly wearing goggles?'

We named this project SOCHA HAI?

We then thought of various ways to spread the questions.

started off by handing out papers with the questions and then slowly expanded by making bookmarks for one of Bangalore's most famous book store called 'Just Books'.

We then asked a roll shop if we could redesign their wrapper and just put a question underneath. They agreed. The shop was 'Roll Me'

Asked a few bakeries if we could redesign their menus and instead of advertising, just put a question underneath.
Below is the image of a menu of a dosa stall we designed. We also made menus for 3 bakeries.

We then thought of making education interesting. So we made a book called 'Sci Zone' and we had interesting questions, puzzle, facts and games in an attempt to make science fun!

As a part of our exhibition at Srishti we decided to make a photo album to show the work we did. We also made a map to show the places we worked at!!

The Incomplete Puzzle!

It was time for some material exploration and we were suppose to choose a material/medium and do some experiments.
As you know from my previous posts that my medium was light, i did various experiments and then we were suppose to make a final product out of the material.
I chose a space as my final product.

Below is a poster which i used to promote my product.

The final product depicted me. I feel most of the people cannot understand me fully. For them i am like an incomplete puzzle. There were some transparent, some translucent and some opaque papers which depicted the same. The umbrella was used as a head and the blinking lights as the thoughts and ideas in my head.
The lights were different people trying to know me whereas the mirrors and reflectors were used to show how many people try indirect methods to know someone.

A view from Bottom

P.s. Many People also termed this space as a 'Make out Room' :P

Yelahanka ka Superman!!

We were suppose to make document our project Jugaad in the form of a 'Jugaad Book'.
A book which is interesting and engaging!!

All of us think that we are all special…. Of course we are…but there are a few people that prove why they are special. Its like their brains work in some other manner. Their body is just a better well-oiled machine than any of ours…..
So many of us are inspired by so many people.. some call them heroes, some idols and some their superman. Here is a story about a guy who was a little different…

Once there lived a guy, with an extraordinary ability,
He could create something meaningful, from whatever he could see.
A term was given to him, which i find really apt,
He was famous all over as 'Yelahanka ka Superman'

For him not a single object could be termed as 'waste',
Everything had its own value, everything had its own taste.
A hundred more uses could be assigned to a single object,
Uses so diverse, with several different effects.

One day while cleaning up, he found mentos and wished to try it. He ate it and uske dimaag ki batti jal gayi. So he got an idea. he planned that he would make a puzzle for himself but using what others termed as ‘waste’. He then took a tetra pack, opened it and then cut it in the shapes of pieces of puzzle. He really enjoyed playing this game. He made many puzzles and started selling them. After he had sold close to 1000 puzzles, he bought a vcd player for his family.

With the desire to understand the world in a better way,
He bought himself a VCD player to watch movies the whole day,
Among all the movies, he did have a favourite one,
A movie series titled ' The story of stuff.'

This clip helped him know the other side better. He started seeing things in a different manner now. He became a curious man…and so one day he asked his neighbour why people eat mentos and the next thing he knows he was sitting in the dustbin. And so, All of a sudden he started realizing the amount of toxic substances present in his small house. Ohh!! He never asked that question again….. most of us don’t actually care about the toxic substances present but after this movie I am sure that most of us will know that we are living in a space full of toxic substances.

A few days later, the slum witnessed a workshop,
To explain it to its people, how waste management could help them all,
The workshop was supported by a long presentation,
But the people were bored, it lacked appreciation.

But as soon as they stopped the presentation and arranged a projector to play the making of a movie, everyone’s eyes popped like a spring and heard attentively. The movie was ‘malegaon ka superman’. They were introduced to a new word ‘Jugaad’. They now knew that they didn’t need a lot of money to do something. All they needed was the will to work. ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’. The team also showed them some posters of jugaad products they used in their daily lives. They started seeing jugaad in so many places. Most of the designers and people find the word ‘jugaad’ derogatory but it is actually a word which helps the world to live in a better, safer world.

While our 'superman' was inspired by the same,
He planned to create something called a 'jugaad game'
Since he loved hockey, he applied 'jugaad' to that,
Made a ball with polythene and rubber bands.

He then asked all his friends to play the game and give him a valid feedback. children loved it…what better they could now be rough and tough and hit their opponents with the ball. Oh! So typically boys… The feedback he got was amazing. The only issue which his friends had was of safety. He then rolled all the sharp things with sponge and the game became a huge hit among his friends. And now he became famous in his entire community. He now started earning from his games and was now slowly becoming the superman of Bangalore.

When he grew old, he made a movie named 'Superman'
A movie that helped him earn a million fans,
As he moved forward, he continued to do the same,
'Richard Donner' is his original name!

p.s. he also made a book that u r reading using wood and plastic sheets!!

Don’t throw this book in the garbage as it is very difficult to recycle plastic and may cause many diseases. Instead give it to a person who is rather interested in reading the book.

Live Sketching Story Board..

I had to make a story using live sketches..
each sketch was to be made in less than 3min..
the practice included sketches to be made in less than 15sec but just bcz this was the final thing so we had like 3 min to complete each sketch. the story was just suppose to have human figures without any expression. We had to capture just the gesture and the action.
two of my friends posed for me.
my story was:

After a very happy day at college, Anumeha was whistling while walking back to her pg in the sfs colony. But a shocking turn of events took place. A guy with a mask on his face started following her. She got scared and increased her pace. The man ran and stopped her. He showed her a knife and asked her to give him all her money. Anumeha got petrified and refused but when he thrust the knife closer to her throat, she agreed. She took out all the money from her bag and gave it to him. Suddenly the guy started laughing and removed his mask. He was one of her close friends, Nishit. Then the girl gave a sigh of relief and slapped her friend jokingly. Throughout the way she continued hitting him.

Below are the sketches.
